Mike has been performing, composing, recording and providing guitar instruction since 1978. Taking up formal study at the age of 11, he began forming his own musical groups at age 15, experimenting with his own rock and jazz-rock compositions. He became a guitar instructor at the age of 18 at the Master Conservatory of Music in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Simultaneously, he began the study of the classical guitar with Tim Phelan and music harmony with Boris Borgstrom. From there he studied music at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, giving equal time to both the jazz and classical approaches to harmony, history and performance.

After graduating, he performed in a touring rock band and later obtained another college degree, this time in electronics. In 1984 he moved to Toronto, Canada and continued his study of the classical guitar, this time for 6 years with the eminent Eli Kassner, who had studied with Andres Segovia himself, and who had also taught Liona Boyd as a child. Mike studied with Mr. Kassner for 5 years and in this time passed the Royal Conservatory’s Grade 10 Guitar Exam (the highest grade) after winning a silver medal for his Grade 9 Guitar Exam results.

Mike has also been working with MIDI and professional recording equipment for over twenty years, and has supplemented his own repertoire with studies in Flamenco guitar. In that time he has also released 4 CD's of original music.

A guitar teacher in the Ogden, Utah area since 2006, Mike provides private lessons in guitar, ukulele, electric bass and music theory in person in South Ogden, Utah or at studios in Riverdale, Utah. He also gives guitar lessons by Skype, ukulele lessons by skype, and bass lessons by skype. For several years Mike provided group guitar lessons for the Hill Air Force Base Youth Center. Mike led a jazz/funk group "The Bozwell Incident" in the greater Salt Lake area from 2009 to 2012. He occasionally performs as a soloist on the nylon string guitar.

The most important thing Mike can offer is a quality learning experience. Typically teaching over 50 students a week of all ages, backgrounds and interests, over 25% of Mike's students have been taking lessons with Mike for over 3 years!
